Personal Care Aide

Qualifications:
- Must be a high school graduate or has completed a GED and has a minimum of 2 years personal aide work experience.
- Has successfully completed the competency evaluation program.
- Has received required training and successfully passed the skills testing.
- Testing shall include written test and skills testing by return demonstration.
- Must have the ability to read, write and follow instructions.
Working Hours:
Works on an as needed basis.
Working Conditions:
Works in private home of scheduled consumer. Needs to be flexible and share
a genuine desire to work with older adults and/or medically fragile adults.
Wage Scale:
$10.00 – $14.00 hr.
RESPOSIBILITIES/DUTIES
- Use appropriate and safe techniques in personal hygiene and grooming that include bed, tub, shower, and partial bath techniques; shampoo in sink, tub, or bed; nail and skin care; oral hygiene; toileting and elimination; safe transfer and ambulation; normal range of motion and positioning and adequate nutritional and fluid intake.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and healthy environment in the home. House cleaning and laundry duties may include dusting furniture; sweeping, vacuuming, and washing floors; kitchen care including dishes, appliances, and counters; bathroom care; emptying and cleaning bedside commode and urinary catheter bags; changing bed linens; washing inside windows within reach from the floor; removing trash; and folding, ironing, and putting away laundry.
- Meal preparation and nutrition planning that include special diet preparation, grocery purchase, planning and shopping; and errands for the sole purpose of picking up prescriptions.
- Maintain the physical, emotional, and developmental needs of enrollee, including the need for respect and privacy of enrollee and property.
- Ensuring compliance with Universal Precautions for infection control including hand washing and disposal of bodily waste.
- Reading and recording temperatures, pulse, and respiration.
- Recognition of emergencies; knowledge of emergency procedures and basic home safety.
- Basic elements of body functioning and changes in body function that should be reported to supervisor.
- Assisting with self-administered medications as directed by the client and/or responsible party.
- Observation, reporting and documentation of enrollee status and services provided.
- Communication skills, including the ability to read, write and make brief accurate oral or written reports.
- Attendance at all required Royal Home Care In-Service programs.
- All other duties assigned.
